Phillip (“Phil”) Gilbert grew up just outside the small Mid-Willamette Valley town of Lebanon, Oregon. Phil’s family owned and operated a water well pump system business and Phil worked for the business during Summers, and some weekends, as well as after school.
Phil obtained an Associates Degree in 1983 (Linn-Benton Community College in Albany) and then his Bachelors Degree (Political Science) in 1985, from Oregon State University.
After graduating from Oregon State, Phil got married, and worked for a few years for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, working as a liability claims adjuster. In the late 1980’s, Phil was accepted at Lewis & Clark College/Northwestern College of Law. Phil obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1992.
During law school Phil worked for a large Portland law firm that primarily represented insurance companies. After he graduated from law school, Phil worked for two Portland “defense” firms, handling medical malpractice, automobile accident and other cases. In March of 1995, Phil opened up his own firm, in Gresham, Oregon. Since then, the firm’s practice has focused on litigation, primarily; with an emphasis on injury accidents.
Phil has been a member of the state Bars in both Oregon and Washington for 25 years, and is also admitted to several federal court Bars, as well as the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. Phil also serves on the arbitration panels in over a dozen of Oregon’s circuit courts, and in Clark County, Washington.
Phil has been “A/V Preeminent” rated by Martindale-Hubbell since 2012, and has been selected as a Super Lawyer and one of the Top Lawyers in Oregon (Portland Monthly Magazine) during each of those same years.
Will Stewart grew up in Portland, where he went to elementary and high school. He then attended the University of Oregon, where he graduated with honors in 2004 and was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa society (open to graduates in the top 10% of their class). Will then left Oregon to attend one of the nation’s top law schools, Duke Law, where he received an academic scholarship. While there, Will was an editor and board member of Duke’s oldest law journal, Law & Contemporary Problems.
Will passed the North Carolina bar exam in 2009 immediately after graduation from Duke, and went to work at one of the nation’s best corporate litigation firms in the firm’s Charlotte, NC office. He then passed the Oregon bar three years later, and returned to the Portland metro area to work at a highly regarded local firm. Will is also a member of the Washington State bar.
After gaining experience with corporate lawsuits, Will decided that he wanted to serve individuals and small businesses, and help those clients resolve meaningful problems affecting their lives and operations. Will had his own firm helping Oregon individuals and entities, and then came to work for Phillip C. Gilbert & Associates in 2017.
